Building the HMC Computer Lab – A Milestone for Workforce Development

Sometimes, progress happens faster than expected. What started as an idea—a computer lab to support workforce development and IT mentorship—became a reality in just two days.

Turning a Vision into Reality

Just days after announcing our collaboration with HMC, we secured 16 starter laptops and found an available space at the HMC headquarters. With a team of interns and volunteers, we got to work—moving furniture, setting up workstations, and configuring the machines to create a fully functional computer lab.

A Team Effort

The energy in the room was electric. Our first intern led the charge, showing volunteers what to do, organizing the process, and moving with efficiency. His drive and initiative were incredible to watch—he wasn’t just following instructions, he was leading.

💡 Our volunteers, including one with prior IT experience, jumped right in, keeping pace and helping configure machines.

💻 By the end of the day, the lab was fully operational—ready to serve the community.

What This Means for the Community

This lab isn’t just a room with computers—it’s a resource for growth, learning, and empowerment.

Job Seekers can come in to apply for jobs, refine their resumes, and research career opportunities.
Community Members can access technology for education, research, and skill-building.
TLC Interns & Volunteers now have a dedicated space to provide mentorship and training.

A Moment of Quick Thinking

That morning, I had planned to meet with Miriam Diria, Managing Director of HMC, to let her know I had found a way to start the computer lab. But before I even had a chance to present the plan, the pieces were already coming together—and by the end of the day, the lab was fully built.

Miriam acted fast—recognizing the impact this lab could have and immediately giving the go-ahead. It was a no-brainer: the sooner we got this lab up and running, the sooner we could provide support to those who need it.

Sustaining the Computer Lab – Opening Sponsorship Opportunities

While launching the lab was a huge success, we know that owning and maintaining a computer lab comes with ongoing costs. To ensure this space remains fully operational and accessible to the community, we are opening up a sponsorship program to help fund the lab’s sustainability.

💡 What Sponsorship Supports:
Laptop replacements & repairs – Ensuring that devices stay updated and functional.
Maintenance & support – Keeping the systems running efficiently for all users.
Program funding – Covering the costs of structured training, mentorship, and job search assistance.
Facility costs – Contributing to rent, utilities, and keeping the lab accessible to the public.

📢 We invite businesses, organizations, and individuals to partner with us in sustaining this vital community resource. Sponsorships don’t just fund computers—they fund opportunity, empowerment, and long-term workforce development.

What’s Next?

With the HMC Computer Lab now operational, our focus shifts to:

Expanding access and outreach to ensure the community knows about this new resource.
Developing structured training sessions for job seekers, students, and IT mentees.
Tracking impact to measure the effectiveness of the lab and optimize for future growth.

This was a major milestone for TLC Tech Solutions and HMC, proving that when the right people come together, big things can happen—fast.
